General Counsel - Josefina Tamayo

Josie Tamayo

Josefina “Josie” Tamayo joined the Department of Management of Services as General Counsel in May 2013. Tamayo comes to the agency with nearly 30 years of experience in state government and the circuit court system. Most recently, Tamayo was appointed to the Second Judicial Circuit where she was responsible for all aspects of criminal proceedings and also family law proceedings.

Prior to her tenure as a Circuit Court Judge, she served as General Counsel for the Florida Department of Health, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, and the Florida Department of Children and Families. Josie began her career as an Assistant State Attorney in the 12th and 13th Judicial Circuits.

Tamayo is a member of the Government Lawyers Executive Council of the Florida Bar, Tallahassee Women Lawyers, Jefferson County Bar, Tallahassee Bar Association and the William H. Stafford Inn of Court. She has served as the featured speaker at events for several organizations including the Pat Dore Administrative Law Conference, The Florida Bar, Dependency Court Improvement Summit, United States Naturalization and Citizenship and the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency.
Tamayo earned her law degree from Georgia State University and her Bachelor of Arts in political science from Emory University. Josie and her husband, Walter, have one son, Joseph. Their family resides in Tallahassee.
