TALLAHASSEE— The Department of Management Services (DMS) Secretary Linda H. South today announced that the Communications and Information Technology Services (CITS) division entered into a partnership with the University of Florida to promote new long distance telecommunications services.
“We are very excited about partnering with the University of Florida and providing them with the best and most affordable long distance service available,” said Secretary South. “We also look forward to passing along an upcoming rate reduction and providing them with additional savings, as well as collaborating on future technology projects.”
The partnership provides for CITS to supply the University of Florida with more than 400,000 minutes of long distance service per month. This partnership brings lower costs for the university and a collaborative effort between engineering teams to explore new and advanced telecommunications solutions. CITS plans a significant rate reduction for all its customers in August, bringing additional cost savings to the university.
“We continuously look at ways to reduce our operating costs and with the anticipated rate reduction from CITS, the university will save money in its long distance expenses,” said John Madey, University of Florida’s Director of Telecommunications.
CITS made significant strides recently in updating its technology and providing its customers with the best products and services available by continuing its plan of dismantling older and outdated services and replacing them with newer and advanced ones. This year, CITS implemented a new switched long distance service, providing increased features and lower costs, migrated customers to the world-class, state-of-the-art MyFloridaNet data transportation network and offered customers advanced technology like Voice over Internet Protocol voice service.
“We feel that the return of the University of Florida to CITS, signals a trend of all colleges and universities partnering with us,” said CITS Deputy Secretary Terry L. Kester. “With our technological advances and cost-effective services, we look forward to more customers benefiting from our offerings.”
