~New location provides more convenience and reduced costs~

TALLAHASSEE -- Department of Management Services Secretary Linda H. South announced today its agreement with Avis Rentals Inc. for a new, convenient rental office located in the Capital Circle Office Center (CCOC) for the exclusive use of eligible users of state term contracts. This location is not for use by the general public. The Division of State Purchasing facilitated this agreement.

“It’s our goal at the Department of Management Services to provide our customers with services that enable them to do their job more efficiently to benefit the citizens of Florida,” said Secretary South. “This new Avis rental location not only provides more convenience, but also helps reduce costs.”

The new CCOC location brings convenience and lower costs by enabling eligible users to avoid parking at the Tallahassee Regional Airport and eliminates the need to pay parking fees for leaving their personal cars overnight. Commonly requested vehicles are located on-site for last-minute reservations while requests for specialty vehicles can be fulfilled with advanced notice. Currently, customers make reservations in person or over the phone at the new location but Avis’ entire rental fleet is available for use. All eligible users continue to benefit from the reduced rental costs thanks to the State of Florida’s agreement with Avis. In addition, free shuttle service is available on Sundays to transport customers between the CCOC and the airport.

“We’re confident our customers will take full advantage of this convenient and cheaper location,” said Director of State Purchasing Charles Covington. “This is another example of the Department of Management Services listening to our customers and providing the features and options they need.”

Another part of DMS’ agreement with Avis requires the rental car company to provide customers with the option of choosing hybrid vehicles for their business travel. This is another example of DMS being one of the agency leaders in implementing Governor Charlie Crist’s priority of increasing Florida’s energy efficiency efforts.

The Division of State Purchasing strives to develop and implement sound purchasing practices throughout the state and building strong relationships with state agencies, local governments and vendors. State Term Contracts and State Purchasing Agreements awarded by the division account for more than $1 billion in purchases annually.
