Florida Broadband Mapping Project
The broadband mapping project, http://map.broadbandfla.com is funded to increase broadband access and adoption through better data collection and broadband planning. The project is used to develop a Florida broadband map as well as the National Broadband Map, a tool to inform policymakers and provide consumers with improved information on the broadband Internet services available to them.
The Department with contractor Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council is creating an inventory broadband services availability and community anchor institutions statewide to map where in the state broadband access is currently available and to ultimately increase broadband access to unserved and underserved areas across the state. The map provides a planning tool for the state’s policy makers and the private sector as they consider investment in broadband to deliver value to Florida’s taxpayers, and augment the state’s economic development work.
The project is mapping landline and wireless services using information from providers and other sources. The collected and verified broadband mapping information will support the broadband development objectives identified in Florida Statute 364.0135. Most importantly, the geographic inventory will refine our data about the location of Florida’s unserved and underserved areas.

The purpose of the Consumer Broadband Test (Beta) is to give consumers additional information about the quality of their broadband connections and to create awareness about the importance of broadband quality in accessing content and services over the internet. Additionally, the FCC may use data collected from the Consumer Broadband Test (Beta), along with submitted street address, to analyze broadband quality and availability on a geographic basis across the United States.
What do the applications do, and how accurate are they?
This application will transfer a small amount of generic data back and forth between your computer and a testing server. More detailed methodology is explained below. The applications attempt to find a server that is relatively close to your location, in order to provide accurate results.
