Dear Team DMS: The regular legislative session ends today, another school year is ending and summer is here. I want to thank each of you for your great work during this year’s legislative session and for the great things you are doing every day here at DMS. The summer months are when many of us find it best to recharge ourselves and spend time with family. Flexible work hours are always available for state employees, but that option may be more popular during the summer. I am pleased to announce that DMS employees may use flexible schedules for the summer months to relax and spend time with their families. The program runs from Memorial Day, May 26 through September 1 (including the Labor Day holiday). Each division must ensure that services for our customers are not interrupted or negatively impacted. Rotation of certain assignments and other work arrangements may be necessary. To participate in the Summer Hours program, please talk with your supervisor to determine if your work schedule may be “flexed” while still meeting the business needs of your specific work area. For example, you may work nine hour days Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. Or you may take 30 minutes for lunch Monday through Thursday and work from 8 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m. on Friday. You need to work out the specifics with your supervisor to be sure it fits the needs of your specific work area. Once approved, submit your summer flex schedule request to your supervisor by completing a flexible schedule request through the People First System. General information on this process may be found at http://dms.myflorida.com/human_resource_support/people_first/for_state_employees/training_documents. If you need further assistance, contact the People First Service Center at (866) 663-4735. (Unless other arrangements are approved, all employees, including those who are currently on an approved flexible schedule, should resume their normal schedule when the program ends.) I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. You have earned it and it is a small way we can thank you – our dedicated public servants – for your hard work as you “serve those who serve Florida.” If you have any general questions about this program, please contact our Personnel Office at (850) 488-2707. Thank you for all you do, Linda South |
