Department of Management Services

DMS Secretary - Erin Rock

Erin Rock

Governor Rick Scott appointed Erin Rock as the Secretary for the Department of Management Services in April 2017. As Secretary, Rock oversees the agency that meets the business needs of state government and its employees. With more than 1 million customers, DMS  administers retirement benefits and health insurance, advises on human resource policy and maintains the state’s human resource information system. The department also provides statewide telecommunication services, coordinates real estate and facilities management, oversees the state’s procurement process and monitors Florida’s private prisons and fleet of vehicles. Excelling in providing workforce and business operations, DMS empowers state agencies to focus on their core missions to serve the public.

Prior to her current role, Rock served as DMS’ Chief of Staff and oversaw the daily operations of the agency. In this capacity, she was responsible for the communications, legislative, information technology and finance and administrative functions of the organization, including financial management, strategic planning and budgeting, agency human resources and departmental purchasing.

Before taking on the responsibility of Chief of Staff, Rock served as Deputy Secretary for Business Operations and oversaw four of the department's divisions as well as a special counsel unit. Rock supervised all matters related to state purchasing, real estate development and management, telecommunications and specialized services, including private prison monitoring, federal property assistance and fleet. She also served as the Executive Director of the Office of Supplier Diversity, an office within DMS that is dedicated to helping improve business opportunities for Florida-based woman-, veteran- and minority-owned small businesses.

Before joining DMS, Rock served as a Staff Director in the Florida House of Representatives under Speaker Dean Cannon. She helped coordinate the Legislature’s massive education and outreach effort surrounding the once-a-decade redistricting process.

Rock has also served in various communications roles since beginning her tenure in state government under the Bush administration, including Director of Communications and External Affairs for the Florida Department of Education and Director of Communications for the Florida Department of Children and Families. Rock’s career in state government began at the former Department of Community Affairs, where she coordinated the state’s public information efforts on behalf of the Emergency Operations Center during the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons.

Rock holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Erin and her husband, Bret, reside in Tallahassee with their two children.
