As the Senior Director of Special Projects for the Department of Management Services, Patrick Gillespie manages the Office of Project Management and Strategic Planning and is responsible for managing all communications, stakeholder engagement, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies related to several of DMS’ high-profile projects.

Prior to his role with DMS, Patrick was an account manager at a Tallahassee public relations firm, CoreMessage, assisting Fortune 500 companies as well as state and national organizations on legislative issues through media relations, social media and traditional advertising, event coordination and legislative interaction. Patrick has also served as the press secretary at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), where he coordinated news media coverage and management of internal and external communications regarding DEP’s public image on topics such as water and air quality standards, state land use, Florida’s nationally recognized state parks system, regulatory permitting, geology, waste management and the state’s five Water Management Districts.

Prior to moving to Tallahassee, Patrick was an award-winning newspaper reporter, covering state and federal court issues in Florida, Georgia and Texas for 10 years followed by experience as a blogger for dozens of law firms nationwide, using search engine optimization to promote their practices. Patrick earned his bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in communication technology from the University of Texas at Arlington.
