TALLAHASSEE - MyFloridaMarketPlace, the state's online purchasing system for state employees and vendors, was honored last week with a 2008 ITFlorida Government Technology Leadership Award. The award recognizes innovative, cost-effective IT solutions to improve the delivery of services while benefiting the citizens of Florida. Recipients were honored at an awards gala in Orlando on October 6.

"It's an honor being recognized for the positive impact MyFloridaMarketPlace has in establishing an effective and efficient purchasing process for the State of Florida," said Department of Management Services Secretary Linda H. South. "The project contributes to our agency's goal of providing smarter, better, faster services for our customers and the citizens of Florida."

MyFloridaMarketPlace was recognized for its role in helping to reduce the state's carbon footprint through its flagging of 'green' products via the system's catalog functionality. This approach provides agency buyers with visibility to products that are considered 'green' and encourage state agencies to purchase products that have a reduced environmental impact.

"I am extremely proud of our team's progress for making MyFloridaMarketPlace more user-friendly and an asset to the state's purchasing community," said Director State Purchasing Charles Covington. "We look forward to helping Florida remain a leader in technology while being environmentally conscious to help better our state."

ITFlorida's third annual Awards Gala brought together Florida's information technology leaders from both the private sector and government to honor innovative individuals, businesses and initiatives from across the state for their contributions to the advancement of information technology for Florida.

MyFloridaMarketPlace is the most sophisticated and comprehensive state purchasing system in the nation. Since its launch in 2003, MyFloridaMarketPlace issued more than 611,000 purchase orders and processed almost 900,000 invoices, totaling more than $5.5 billion. There are more than 103,000 registered vendors, including 34,000 minority-owned businesses.
