2018 Information Releases

  • Information Release 2018-209 (Adobe PDF Document) - Oct. 30, 2018, Valid Social Security Numbers  (distributed to all FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release clarifies that FRS members should only be reported to the Division of Retirement using valid social security numbers.
  • Information Release 2018-208 (Adobe PDF Document) - Oct. 30, 2018, Salary Reduction Plan Contributions for State University Optional Retirement Program (SUSORP) Members  (distributed to all State University System Participating Employers). This information release clarifies when SUSORP members may contribute to other salary reduction plans.
  • Information Release 2018-207 (Adobe PDF Document) - Oct. 30, 2018, New Contact Type for FRS Online & New Retirement Coordinator Orientation   (distributed to FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators of State Employers). This information release describes the new "Approved Caller" contact type on FRS Online and describes information now available for new retirement coordinators to assist them in learning their roles and responsibilities of their position.
  • Information Release 2018-206 (Adobe PDF Document) - Oct. 30, 2018, New Contact Type for FRS Online & New Retirement Coordinator Orientation  (distributed to FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators of Non-State Employers). This information release describes the new "Approved Caller" contact type on FRS Online and describes information now available for new retirement coordinators to assist them in learning their roles and responsibilities of their position.
  • Information Release 2018-205 (Adobe PDF Document) - May 3, 2018, 2018 Legislation Concerning Changes to Extended Participation in DROP  (distributed to FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators with District School Boards, Charter Schools, and State Universities and State Colleges Providing K-12 Education). This information release describes the applicable policies and procedures that have been established to comply with extended DROP participation for specified K-12 personnel.
  • Information Release 2018-204 (Adobe PDF Document) - April 12, 2018, 2018 Legislation  (distributed to all FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release describes major enactments of various bills passed by the Florida Legislature during the 2018 Regular Session that could affect members of the FRS and other state-administered or locally administered retirement systems.
  • Information Release 2018-203 (Adobe PDF Document) - April 9, 2018, Retirement Contribution Rates for 2018-2019  (distributed to all FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release publishes contribution rates effective July 1, 2018, for active and renewed members of the FRS by plan and class code, including rates for the unfunded actuarial liability (UAL), the Retiree Health Insurance Subsidy (HIS), and the assessment for FRS administrative/educational costs. Rates are also provided for the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) and optional programs. This release includes a schedule of dates that contributions and payroll reports are due in Fiscal Year 2018-19.

   

2017 Information Releases

  • Information Release 2017-202 (Adobe PDF Document) - Dec. 1, 2017, FRS Default Membership Change and Reporting Reminders  (distributed to all FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release serves as a reminder that the default membership changes for most FRS members whose initial election period is effective on or after Jan. 1, 2018. While Special Risk Class members will continue to default to Pension Plan membership, members in the Regular Class and other membership classes will default to the Investment Plan if the member does not actively choose a plan.
  • Information Release 2017-201 (Adobe PDF Document) - Nov. 9, 2017, Retiree Health Insurance Subsidy Benefit Tax Exclusion  (distributed to all FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release serves as a reminder that the Internal Revenue Service allows retirees and beneficiaries receiving the Health Insurance Subsidy (HIS) to exclude from their taxable income all or a portion of the HIS payments under certain conditions. This release provides instruction on how agencies can submit certifications via FRS Online or Secure File Transfer Protocol.
  • Information Release 2017-200 (Adobe PDF Document) - Nov. 1, 2017, Publication Update  (distributed to all FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release informs employers that the FRS Member Handbook, the Ready.Set.Retire. guide, the DROP guide, the Disability Benefits guide and the Survivor Benefits guide have been updated to include changes enacted during the 2017 Florida legislative session and are available on the website and for ordering.
  • Information Release 2017-199 (Adobe PDF Document) - June 15, 2017, Identifying Employees Eligible for Renewed Membership  (distributed to all Non-State and State College FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release explains changes affecting renewed membership and how local agencies can identify eligible employees.
  • Information Release 2017-198 (Adobe PDF Document) - June 15, 2017, Identifying Employees Eligible for Renewed Membership  (distributed to all State Agency and State University FRS Agency Heads and Retirement Coordinators). This information release explains changes affecting renewed membership and how state agencies can identify eligible employees.
